In case anyone's interested, this is the process I'm using to generate normals for the painterly portfolio project I'm working on. This is in Substance Painter, but you could also do it in Photoshop or 3D Coat I convert them to tangent space after the fact, but you could also do that in a shader

I storyboarded a fan anime opening for my favorite childhood game, megaman legends /ロックマンDASH I wanted to animate the whole thing, but that’s way too much effort. Did it in a way where I can fulfill that childhood dream and move on. Maybe one day I'll form a MAP project out of this!

I got tired of looking up normals so I made myself a cheatsheet If you're not already aware, a normal map renders a pixel at a fake angle determined by the colour. E.g. yellow tilts the pixel toward the top right. (79, 102, 179) would be leftwards and slightly down

I've spent *years* researching 3D Platformer Cameras in hopes of making Slime 64's camera "not terrible." In this thread, the White Cylinder is the Camera Target (slightly above the player!), and the Orange Cones represent the "vertical dead zone" where the camera won't follow player movement.

another stylized aesthetic explosion experiment. still challenging myself to only use default sphere mesh + vtx warp + fragment fx, no particles. stylized discard instead of alphablend in fragment shader for a sharp contrast + glitchy pixel look.
