Wow, this is wrong on so many levels. How about we create more safe and stress-free environment so students don't have to use alcohol to feel comfortable there? I agree that just removing social interactions because of alcohol is not solving the problem, but no, drinking more is not the solution.

Star formation is coming back to Poland! I couldn't be more excited about this. Dr Agata Karska is hiring a PhD at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland, funded from the SONATA BIS grant of @ncn.gov.pl The expected starting date is October 1. Deadline for applications: July 1!

I attended a meeting: "Recovery plan for Ukrainian astronomy" organized by @unileiden.bsky.social @astro4dev.bsky.social It was great to interact with Ukrainian astronomers, learn about their science and challenges. I look forward to fostering new collaborations in both the Netherlands and Poland.

It's paper day! arxiv.org/abs/2412.01895 JWST is studying the molecular contents of the inner regions of protoplanetary discs in unprecented detail, and they turn out to be very varied. Some discs, eg DR Tau, are dominated by emission from water, others, eg GW Lup, are dominated by CO2. But why? 1/6
