Just went to see my shrimp man. Georgia's 🦐 season doesn't start until next month, so shrimpers have to go 3 miles out. For a small boat like his, that's about 300 gallons of fuel. He says he doesn't know how big boat shrimpers will survive what's happening with diesel prices. ⛽📈

A lot has changed over the last 10 years, but at least one thing has remained constant: Most Thursday evenings for the last decade, I've biked to @wruu.bsky.social's downtown studio to play records and talk to people on the radio. My show is called Here It Is Tomorrow. I'm back at it tonight at 7.

Do I know more people who work/have worked in public radio than the average person? I just counted them up and I know nine public radio people IRL. Is that a lot?

I don't remember owning an umbrella as an undergrad, but I do remember sitting in class soaking wet. That's why I buy a batch of cheap umbrellas at the beginning of each term. This morning I taught my final classes of the semester and gave away my last three umbrellas on a rainy day in Savannah.

There's a guy who drives around Savannah in a decommissioned USPS Jeep DJ-5 with a matte black spray can paint job and a Chucky doll strapped to the sorting tray. It's a memorable vehicle made more memorable by a new addition I saw today: A table saw attached to the roof.

A restaurant near my home is celebrating five years in business, which I understand is an impressive feat in the competitive food/beverage world. Yet their signage is a vinyl banner they slapped on the side of the building when they opened. This is the sort of thing I get hung up on.

Seen on my morning walk: Despite living just down the street from their "home" field, I really haven't kept track of how the Savannah Bananas cinematic universe has grown.

Have people outside of Georgia heard much about these fires? Yesterday in Savannah, there was smoke hanging in the air all the way into the marsh on the east side of campus.

A lot about the world is very heavy right now but if a college football podcast that got jettisoned by Vox during the pandemic for not having a marketable audience can raise this much money for refugees in Atlanta in two days then just think of all the stuff we can all do together

I have been complaining about this for years. The metropolitan planning organization is inviting the public to “learn about its bicycle and pedestrian facility study, share ideas for your local community, and help shape the future of biking and walking in the region” at an open house.

There's a similar program here in Savannah, through which businesses and other institutions can request free bike racks for their locations. I've made many local businesses aware of it. The City is usually quick to install racks once requests are received.

I am so sick of the word "deal." 🤮

Cargo bikes keep getting bigger and bigger, it seems. Check out the size of this one, which I spotted parked in the Delesseps Avenue bike lane on my way to campus this morning. 🚲

The HVAC system at our downtown classroom building is not working. I remember during the pandemic, there was a lot of talk from architects and public health officials about the importance of ventilation. I certainly could go for windows that actually open right about now I tell you what. 🥵

I am pleased to report I that on my way home from campus I shared Truman Linear Park Trail Phase 2B with plenty of other people on bikes, along with people running and walking. This trail is a hit and it's not even officially open yet. Also, I think I saw Ras Trent walking in Daffin Park.

The season is officially underway, with Tybee Island Ocean Rescue lifeguards on the beach today, "with training and roving patrols in UTVs to keep a close eye on conditions and beachgoers." Unfortunately, there is a lot less beach on Tybee these days.

Spent some time crate digging at Graveface this afternoon. It's been ages since I've done that. Didn't buy anything, though.

I'm not big on parties, but I'm going to a birthday party this afternoon for a friend who is one of the most social people I've ever met. She travels in so many circles, it's going to be fascinating seeing people from all of them in one place.
