Two years ago, for the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, I donned my Washingtonesque costume and served cold brew at my school. As a coffee lover, its role in the revolution always gives me a thrill!

As a teacher, there is nothing better than the message from a student you had years ago saying they remember your class fondly. It is absolutely electric. If you have that teacher in your life and you can find a way to reach out to them, do it!

I always have my students read the Articles of Confederation (it’s a pretty darn short document) and this always causes a few raised eyebrows. Students wonder why they wouldn’t have joined, which leads us right into the difficulties the country faced in the 1780s.
