Tbh the dominant "crypto bad" narrative has always been really frustrating to me bcuz it almost always comes from a largely privileged American perspective, meanwhile millions of people throughout Africa, Asia, Latin America etc use it regularly

that doesnβt mean blockchains are worthless (though i agree most apps donβt need a token). the user keys and merkle trees under the hood here are cryptographic primitives also used by blockchains β for atproto we recombined them in new ways that traded off some decentralization for efficiency.

see, the thing here is that all of the advancements worth paying attention to in distributed systems and cryptography are around "blockchain" and they have broad reaching and unpredictable applications. like any other emerging technology
