Felix took a swig from his leather sack and sighed. “You’re way too chatty for your own good. But… better, after that fight. You’re strong, and you’re a valuable asset to our army.”

And Felix welcomed every blow. Each attack was deftly avoided. When their fearsome bout finally ended, Felix would feel himself grin. “You gave it your all that fight. I’m impressed.”

“Are you deaf or just stupid? I TOLD you: if you’re swinging your sword around with that dopey grin on your face, then you can forget it. I want an enemy out for blood, not one skipping through rose bushes.”

“Jealous?” That was enough to get Felix to blink at Ferdinand. What the hell did he mean by that? “Jealous of what?”

“I don’t buy it for a second. Usually, after I tell you to knock it off, you at least have the decency to look embarrassed.” He huffed and lowered his sword. “I’m not interested in fighting an opponent who isn’t looking to kill me.”

The tips of his ears went pink. “Shut up,” he grumbled as he looked high and low for Manuela. “You’re distracting me.”

Eventually, Felix would enter with his own cape over his mouth. “Damn…” What a mess he’d made.

He couldn’t help but blush in embarrassment. He quickly fought his way out of Ferdinand’s grip. “Thank you. For the sword, I mean.”
