Bedrock is on many platforms on which Java-styled modding is not possible, which is why we've created the Add-ons solution for Bedrock.

I think it's because the shader (graphics component that applies the texture) is different in bedrock. Personally I think I prefer the way it looks in Java, even if it's maybe a bit more cartoonishly blue.

One thing I enjoy the most is seeing the community respond to our changelogs, sometimes they are spot on about what we are cooking up, other times they say it’s weird we did a thing not realizing it’s a small piece to a much larger puzzle. Thank you all for being so passionate about #minecraft

I think it's just a coincidence. However, when we add new biomes it often forces players to explore long distances or create new worlds, so that adds to the considerations.
