What is distribution? It's things like @mcuban.bsky.social has 1.4m followers here on bsky and just puts the domain of his business on his profile and how many people see it? So how do you get distribution when you don't have the followers?

Do you ever walk around and look at all of these businesses everywhere, wondering who owns them and how they got to do that?

I have talked to many people in the past who have business or product ideas but they are very protective over them, as in, they fear someone hearing it and stealing it. So far, even years later, none of these people have made a successful business out of any of these secret ideas.

How do you actually know if your idea is a good idea?

My kids take inspiration from the businesses I've started in the past but they often miss a critical element. I always tell them don't make the product until you have proof that there is a market for it. They don't listen, so I am surrounded by unsold products...

My goal is to help local businesses, so I created a (in my opinion) really good customer reactivation system - but I'm finding this doesn't fit well because most businesses that want help don't have the loyal customers to reactivate... I need a better package offering to help with that.

I met a retired business owner who has had several successes over about 50 years and he told me this was his secret: identify the biggest bottleneck and focus on solving it. Then repeat. The bottleneck can be anything. It can be sales, fulfillment, employees, etc. it sounds simple but he is right.

The brutal truth is that unless you have customers, you have nothing. Ideas are worth nothing. Built products are worth nothing. Only customers create value in a business. The real business is in getting customers.

Google pay works so well, it is a solid model for a one-click portable customer-info-and-payment system. I think there could be legitimate competition to amazon if every online retailer used this and someone ran a live index (more live than google shop) of all the online retailers.

It's really hard trying to have a tech startup in the current climate in the US. Telling yourself and others what you're doing matters is hard when you feel as though many other things are far more important today...

I thought that many people would be excited about the idea of being able to make apps and games using ai, specifically because it lets people that didn't become coding experts create things, but it seems it's not having that much impact like that.
