In January, Rep. Michael Baumgartner signed an Amicus Brief to the Supreme Court that was written by the White Nationalist Movement. He is not even trying to hide his motives now. The article quotes in his own words, his praise for a slave owner who he credits for being nice to his slaves.

Outside money is already pouring into this race for the incumbent, who has already spent over half a million dollars to keep his seat. Local donors and volunteers are stepping up to support Team Eastern Washington and send Carmela Conroy to Congress.

In WA-5, the ‘functional floor of independence’ for a family of four is about $100,000 a year, the income needed to meet basic needs without public assistance. That requires two full-time earners making about $24 an hour each. Most local jobs pay less, leaving working families financially exposed.

Rep. Michael Baumgartner is selling a “school choice” tax credit to his district, but most families in WA-5 cannot use it at all. Rural counties lack private schools, and working families lack spare cash. This policy exposes how little he understands the people he represents.

The senate confirmed each of these life-long public servants. What will it take for Congress to reclaim its constitutional power over executive abuse?
