I strongly echo everything in this article and would just add: what is even the point of engineering these animals, other than for the PR stunt.

Everything about this "dire wolf de-extinction" stinks of a cheap PR stunt and is emblematic of why we can't rely for a second on tech bros to address climate change and conservation in any meaningful way.

Colossal Bioscience did not revive dire wolves, despite a sensationalist Time Magazine cover story. Making genetically modified animals that are cosplaying as extinct species is not de-extinction.
