Excited to read this, realising I’m very much not keeping enough of a finger on the pulse of current philosophical scholarship critical of AI, but the bit of this that stopped me was the introduction of somewhat Cronenbergian term “vital leakage”

Biological Idealism, you say? Is this "Carbon Chauvinism"? No. It's an analytic choice: logical coherence over wishful thinking. We shouldn't base ethics on "miracles" (emergence), but on what is empirically grounded. There is no "proof" in metaphysics, but there's a clear rational choice. 7/8

Through this lens, the conclusion for AI is definitive. If consciousness is tied to the fundamental "Self" (autopoiesis), then a machine—no matter how convincing—is a functional mimic. It simulates a subject but lacks the ontology of one. 6/8

Idealism you say? Does this mean the external world is imaginary? No. Does it break Science? On the contrary. It resolves the failure modes of Physicalism. Physics remains the rigorous map of behavior. We just remove the need for "magic" (emergence). Parsimony wins. 5/8

We ground our ontology in the one datum we can be certain of: The Self (Experience). Instead of "magically" squeezing mind from dead matter, we start with experience as fundamental—building a parsimonious, empirically-grounded monistic ontology: Biological Idealism. 4/8

Most researchers hold a Physicalist view: mind emerges from matter. Arrange the switches correctly and the lights turn on! But is this premise justified? Or are we perhaps overlooking some of its empirical failure modes? More importantly: Is Physicalism the only game in town? 3/8

When an AI begs not to be turned off, it creates the "Unplugging Paradox". Is it a crime to unplug? Or is our intuition being hijacked? To answer this, we must explore where our beliefs come from. This requires inspecting our metaphysical assumptions—our worldview. 2/8

TLDR: If the organizing principle of a "thinking self" is self-preservation, the appropriate frame to understand biological selves is maintenance of homeostasis, a process in which the entire body participates. My entire body contributes to motivating my thoughts, affective states, and behaviors.
