Together on Tuesday: A service is for anyone who may find a longer service difficult, but still enjoys singing and praising God - suitable for those with dementia. Refreshments and cake ☕️🍰 served after the service in the Edmund Chapel. Tuesday 9 September at 2.00 pm.

Next Sunday, 7 September, we will bless backpacks at the start of a new school year. You are invited to bring school bags or an item symbolising your daily work/activity. Blessings will take place at both the 9.00 am All-Ages Eucharist and the 10.30 am Choral Eucharist.

September’s Dogs of the Cathedral Calendar models are Bonnie and Pippin who are toy poodles and also mother and daughter! We managed to capture their enviable highlights in the sunshine. Dogs are welcome at the Cathedral, as long as they are well-behaved and on a lead 🦮

The 33rd East Anglian Beer Festival and Cider Festival starts at the Cathedral today at 4.00 pm and runs until Monday 25 August. For six days, we play host to over 250 real ales and craft beers, 60 ciders, food stalls and a full entertainment programme. Tickets available on the door.

Two priests were dressed the same amongst the varied clergy outfits at the 40th Anniversary of Kagera Diocese celebrations in Tanzania. Father Focus teaches at the theological college next to Kagera Cathedral. His own theological education was funded by our Diocese 25 or so years ago.

The Cathedral Tower will light up later today (Friday 15 August) for the 80th anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan), commemorating the end of the Second World War.

Visiting Kagera Diocese in Tanzania, Canon Matthew caught up with the brilliant Thomas Shavu, the diocesan officer who helps subsistence farmers develop their produce and increase income. The strawberry seeds given to Thomas last year (by Adam Geileskey) are bearing fruit.

Our Pram Services are at 10.15 am on select Fridays in the Lady Chapel and last for about 10 minutes. We share a short Bible story, a song and a simple prayer. Join us for our next short service on Friday 8 August.

The Cathedral Art Club's Summer Exhibition is underway! Visit the cloisters for an interesting range of artworks from members of the Art Club. Paintings and cards are for sale. Running until Sunday 10 August, the exhibition is open daily from 10.00 am – 4.00 pm. Free admission.

The Cathedral Choir has returned from a great tour to Carlisle. As well as singing four beautiful services in the Cathedral, they also explored Honister Slate Mine (treating the guide to an underground rendition of Noble in B minor) and gave the Lionesses a run for their money!

A big thank you to all those who joined us for a circular pilgrimage on Saturday 26 July. Beginning at the Cathedral, our group walked nine miles along old paths through unspoilt Suffolk countryside, stopping at Nowton and Rushbrooke churches before returning for Evensong at the Cathedral.

Yesterday, our College of Canons came together under The Congé d'Elire ("leave to elect") - the licence from HM The King - to elect The Right Reverend Dr Joanne Woolway Grenfell as the next Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich. This process has been in place since 1534!

The Venerable Samantha Brazier-Gibbs, Archdeacon of Ipswich, was installed at the Cathedral yesterday. She was installed in the stall of St Edward, King and Confessor, and joins the Cathedral’s College of Canons.

Labyrinths are a spiritual exercise encouraging reflection and contemplation. The wildflower labyrinth in the Abbey Gardens is behind the ruins of the abbey crypt. Come for a blessing on a mini-pilgrimage Sunday afternoon on July 20 and August 17, 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm. Suitable for all ages.
