Our team is collecting Downey birch seeds from our alley cropping rows. These salt adapted Downey birch trees where planted as saplings in 2020 from seed collected from a woodland fragment on the hyper oceanic North Atlantic coast.

Our Burren Pine stand is producing little pine cones! This stand was planted as part of Burrenbeo Trust Hares Corner Project to preserve the local genetic character of a unique stand of pine trees found in the Burren.

This winter, we enlisted the help of Dr Adam Smith, a large mammal ecologist in Europe and Ukraine, to develop a protocol to assess the impact of sheep and deer grazing on our restoration sites.

🌿 Join Hometree as an Ecology Intern this Summer! Are you passionate about nature and curious about a career in ecology? Hometree is offering a 6-week hands-on internship where you will gain real-world experience working alongside our team of ecologists in the field.

Spring has arrived in our Organic Tree Nursery's polytunnels! Our elder cuttings are thriving, hawthorn and oak seedlings are starting to emerge from the soil, and our year-old Scots pines are bursting into their first flush of the season.

During our last volunteer day, we had the incredible privilege of welcoming Deirdre Kennedy from Kennedy Oaks, who brought with her an amazing 800 native oak saplings! These saplings were grown from acorns collected in 2023 from oaks that Deirdre’s grandfather planted back in 1971 in Co. Wicklow. 🌳

A huge heartfelt thank you to the amazing volunteers who joined us on Wednesday for an unforgettable tree-planting day at one of our sites! 🌿

This past Saturday was a powerful reminder of what community action can achieve! We had an incredible volunteer day at our HQ and were honored to support a tree planting and river cleanup with the Restore Ballymacraven River Association.

Hometree’s Native Tree Nursery is officially organic! 🌱 We received our Irish Organic Association certificate this week, which means we have now completed our two-year organic conversion period. This conversion period gives the land time to transition and purify.
