Sitting in my sunny room, catching up on newishly acquired cassettes. It’s a gorgeous day but I’m home, doing chores, monitoring/comforting the cats after giving them their parasite prevention this morning. Tuxie girl has only just decided she’s not mad at me, six hours later. Maybe it’s the music 😄

Rest in power Areski Belkacem, French-Algerian singer and composer who was Brigitte Fontaine's partner for more than 50 years. When I visited Brigitte in Paris, he was in hospital and she kept saying "he should be here". Thanks for the music Areski, including Vous et Nous, one of my favourite albums

I meant specifically how everyone’s hearing changes as they age - not a preference for more accessible music. And y’all know how much I love drone - I guess if the tone hits me right, lol. One example of the sustained sound I cannot tolerate is on Track 2 (Four Folks) from 2:40-4:17, specifically

Maybe it’s because I’m older (I’m not that old), but the drone that runs through some of these songs is so harsh and grating that even though I really, really appreciate what he’s doing here, I find this album unlistenable now. I already know some of you will either agree or disagree, lol

Not exaggerating, I just searched for 20 minutes for this record. Found it filed between the Ariel Kalma and Carl Stone records, because of course, lol

Sometimes weather makes the energy of an old space feel new again. Bypassing the sunny patio, I strolled around. The garden soaking pool was filled with happy folks staying warm in the pouring rain. Magical. I cozied up at the bustling bar, then retreated to the secret C Parker room for some quiet.

Finished Ep 2 of The Dark Wizard and feel deeply nostalgic for my days in the 90s when my friends were all intense, engineering students, outsiders, often taking whatever interest to an extreme.
