Being ignorant is normal, but humanity suffers from mass brainwashing in a myriad of ways including accepting animal abuse; torture and murder. Humans love companion animals. We care about them when they are alive; our hearts break when they die. We recognise them as someone, not something. The mental gymnastics we play when we mourn one but kill others for a sandwich is perplexing.
