Out of sheer curiosity: how many pokemon have dex entries that specifically mentions them dying? Ex: Spoink dying if it stops bouncing. Primeape dying if it becomes too angry. Etc.

Starters in the main series always have drastic changes between their lines. Look at the differences between Galar’s 2nd and 3rd stages. Crocalor ➡️ Skeledirge is also quite the change up. Frogadier and Greninja too. So it’s not an uncommon thing, and the GA starters still fit the primary themes.
