The opening chase from Michael Bay's Six Underground comes to mind for the sheer insanity of it. Last Bullet (the French chase thriller) has some proper crunchy practical stunt work. The Blues Brothers is a classic.

I've had the pleasure of reading this pilot. At the time I described it as Challengers but wet. There's only a handful of shows that made me immediately want to watch the next ep and Threestyle would be up there with them. If you're wanting a Heated Rivalry style hit, this is the one to chase.

A show that began as basically vibes (hello Challengers style soundtrack) and sex, deftly lands such a feel good emotional wallop in the closing moments of ep 5. That ending is 10/10. Had me properly choked up.

François Arnaud in ep 3 of Heated Rivalry is star making stuff. I was a fan of his when he was the lead in the 3 season drama The Borgias on Showtime. But his turn in Heated Rivalry is next level. Off the charts charisma.

That Nuremberg film with Russell Crowe sure is something.

Take the set pieces of Raiders, The Last Crusade and Dial of Destiny. Add the splatter of Inglorious Bastards. Mix with the "physics" of the Fast & The Furious franchise. And you've got Sisu 2. I had myself a good time.

Not sure why the critics were unkind about the last season of Slow Horses. I found it to be just as good as the previous four. And it's a beautiful looking show.

The problem with certain US productions shooting in the UK (something I noticed with Ghostbusters Frozen Empire and more recently with The Roses), is that the supporting artists don't look American. Something I like to call the wetherspoons face.

An addition to the whole "write your spec" discussion. Last year the AI thriller ALIGNMENT sold for over $3m. The writer was a true outside the industry nobody. And the grand old men of screenwriter twitter were openly saying how they'd "fix" it in rewrites. Is that why they want specs written?

People dunking on Stranger Things for the cast being 20-22 playing 16... as if that hasn't been the norm for decades in US shows and films. Smallville had a 24 year old playing 14! Hell, someone I know was 24 playing 14 on a CBBC show.

Agree with all of this. The entire thing is fucked. You've got new-ish TV writers who should probably be high up/running their own shows by now, competing each year with well established writers/showrunners who are now also struggling to land gigs.

I wish British TV had something as wildly fun and daft as 911. This season's first 4 eps had them sending two of their characters into space. Last season had a 3 parter about a bee tornado and a kid flying/landing a passenger plane.

It's interesting that the filmmakers backing or championing AI (Miller, Blum, Cameron) are those having trouble with ballooning budgets. Or in Blum's case needing to compete with the big spectacle movies but at a fraction of the cost. Creativity and innovation used to be the workaround.
