Family update: since I met my Cuban family two years ago, there’s only one person I haven’t talked to or met yet. He had a traumatic childhood and doesn’t talk to the family anymore. I finally got his number and gave him a call. WE IMMEDIATELY HIT IT OFF! He’s coming over tomorrow for dinner!

There’s a singles event downtown next week. A friend was supposed to come with me but.. isn’t. (🙄 Long story) So I’ll have to go by myself and I don’t know if I’m ready for that yet. I’ve been getting out more, which is huge progress for me, but a singles event by myself makes me hella nervous.

I promised myself I’d get the LEGO Van Gogh Sunflower as a Christmas present to myself, so I absolutely cannot afford this one as well, but my god in heaven this is MAGNIFICENT!! LEGO truly outdid themselves with this one!! It’s so beautiful and detailed!!

Funny story time: My brother works at the UPS hub that delivers to my area, so the guys know me. I make sure to give them tasty snacks (chip bags, ferrero rocher chocolates and jerky packs..they tell him he has a “cool” sister 🥹) This time, I had two (new to me) drivers show up at my door.

Thanksgiving will be at my house this year. The Cuban side of my family has.. issues, so this is the first time most of us will be together. This is the first time they’ll meet my younger brother on my Black side. I grew up not celebrating Thanksgiving (or any holidays) so this is a big deal.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue this week, alongside multiple other phenomenal team members. At our Summit, I was asked how it felt to be 1 of 2 Black women left and what that meant for representation. Now, there are no Black women at Teen Vogue and that is incredibly painful to think about.

thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting. now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.
