Three years ago yesterday, Kansas told extremism NO and voted to protect common-sense and American freedom. We were the first in the nation to vote on abortion rights after Roe v. Wade was overturned, and we sent a message that gross government overreach has NO place in our state or our country.

As a member of the Kansas Democratic Party’s central state committee, the Vice Chair of the Party’s LGBTQ+ Caucus, and the Chair for Kansas’ Third Congressional District for Kansas Young Democrats, I was proud to be one of the over 200 UNANIMOUS votes in favor of passing this resolution on Saturday.

If Republicans in Kansas have no concerns about election results and want to use them to claim they have a mandate on certain issues, maybe they should allow those issues (like medicaid expansion) to stand alone as ballot initiatives.

THIS IS ASTONISHING. The Kansas Senate used EMERGENCY POWERS to begin debating an anti-trans bill that had hearings YESTERDAY and was moved out of Committee TODAY. The bill was introduced a week ago. Opponent testimony was OVERWHELMING compared to proponent testimony. This is appalling. #ksleg

NEW THIS MORNING: The Kansas Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee JUST passed SB 63 out of committee. It now heads to the Kansas Senate. SB 63 is a bill that received a significant amount of opposition and would ban potentially life-saving healthcare for LGBTQ+ youth in Kansas. #ksleg

One thing to note as I’m looking at the bills that are filed this morning in Kansas- There are several bills that would fundamentally change some rules around elections and the way we vote. For example-

I am so glad that after 3 movies (The Wizard of Oz, 1939, Oz the Great and Powerful, 2013, Wicked Part 1, 2024) that next year we FINALLY get to learn the REAL reason that tornadoes keep sucking up random people in Kansas and forcing them to travel to a hallucinogenic hellscape.

Cut me a BREAK. I went to Shawnee Mission North, a PROUD alum, and this teacher does NOT represent our community. To me she seems to be nothing more than another hateful person trying to get her name in the news at the expense of LGBTQ+ kids.
