Why is the Egyptian military a mediocre institution?

If you have any interest in ancient Egyptian artifacts, this is a fascinating read. I visited many years ago and learned about this man when I arrived there as he was the country's premier Egyptologist.

"Hawass...understood that Western media did not want slow excavation, cautious interpretation, or complex institutional history. It wanted revelation. It wanted tombs opened on camera, mummies scanned under dramatic lighting, and a commanding Egyptian host who could perform authority in English."

It is. Perfect timing as I attempt to finish writing an article on events linked to the Tutankhamun centenary, whose failure to move Egyptology forward is in part due to what this piece describes. And in part due to structural racism in Western Egyptology.🏺📜🗃️
