🪸 Meet a new #InvasiveAlienSpecies, Nanozostera japonica, the Japanese Eelgrass. 🐚 It displaces native seagrass, affecting local shellfish communities. ⚪ Its faster decomposition rate compared to native seagrasses also alters the decomposer community and productivity dynamics in the tidal zone.

👉 Our next #InvasiveAlienSpecies is Misgurnus bipartitus, the Northern Weatherfish 🌊 It directly competes with the native protected species M. fossilis in the EU, potentially leading to its extinction and disrupting the ecosystem 🪱 It's a carrier of pathogens and may hybridise with native fish

🌿 This past month, we hosted PhD student Gorgias Aikpon (Univ. of Abomey-Calavi, Benin)! His PhD explores the ecology, distribution & management of two invasive plants: Jack in the Bush and Pignut. During his stay, he developed species distribution models to predict their potential distributions. 🗺️
