Gobsmacked to learn that this male Pied Flycatcher, currently feeding chicks at my coastal nestbox site in Eryri NP (and caught under BTO licence), was originally ringed as a chick over 150km away in the Lake District!

A beautiful late-evening visit to my reservoir site yesterday. Herb-Robert proving it’s a rainforest by growing on a fallen tree, a metre above ground. Five eggs from the Nuthatches, and the Pied Flycatchers won’t be far behind…

Such a privilege to spend time in my two nestbox monitoring sites in the Carneddau - both around 250m elevation but with very different backdrops and characters. The season is now in full swing with the Pied Flycatchers back and nest building! Nests monitored under BTO licence

Lots of colour-rings to be found on Colonsay. Already this trip, we’ve resighted multiple Barnacle Geese, Hooded Crows and Choughs (plus our target Greenland White-fronts). Even saw - but frustratingly failed to read - a Twite from one of @jamiedunning.bsky.social‘s schemes! #ukbirding

A brilliant day - smooth crossing to Colonsay (sightings of camera 📷 Tystie, 📷 Golden and White-tailed Eagles) before we caught up with some 9 of our 12 colour-marked 📷 Greenland White-fronted Geese in the last of the light!

Making my way slowly north this week, towards Colonsay. I’ll be spending a long weekend trying to catch up with A3A and his pals. With a little luck, I’ll come back home with a laptop full of amazing migration data, and leave a setup behind to gather another winters’ worth of habitat usage data!🤞
