@britishbugs.bsky.social I think I’ve finally reached a conclusion on this bug I found at Spurn, is it just Megalonotus chigara? On the first photo it is on the right, with a specimen of M.chigara on the left. I was hoping it was a very lost Eremocoris plebejus but I think that’s wishful thinking

Decent trap on Monday night with 2 lifers, Acleris cristana and Mirificarma mulinella. Also NFY was Dark Sword-grass. On Sunday I had a great surprise while trying to photograph some Migrant Hawkers, this Hummingbird Hawkmoth dropped in out of nowhere! Very welcome garden tick. #mothsmatter #moths

Night after the Clifden was excellent as well with 3 lifers-Golden Twin-spot, Dark Marbled Carpet and Southern Oak Bush Cricket. Last night was very quiet with Red Underwing NFY + the Calliphorid Paykullia maculata which was NFM #mothsmatter

Was a quiet, rainy, windy, cold night last night but who cares! This Clifden miraculously found the trap last night, and was a very welcome garden tick. Stunning.

A very good reason not to mow-just been round my garden and recorded 177 Dock Bugs (Coreus marginatus) on all the Broad-leaved Dock on site that we have left to grow. A very attractive species! @britishbugs.bsky.social

6 year ticks on 16/08 took 2025 garden moth list to 368, moths in question being Dark Spectacle (in Ni Moth lure), Bloodvein, Flounced Rustic, Dotted Clay, Yellow Shell and Brown China Mark. Also in trap was Agrypnia pagetana and Mystacides azurea, both NFM + Larinioides cornutus was NFG. #moths

A few more year ticks last night and the list for the year is now at 272. Highlight was NFM Elachista maculicerusella, but some lovely year ticks including Eucosma campoliliana, Buff Arches and Muslin Footman. #mothsmatter

@britishbugs.bsky.social Hi, got 3 of these from willow yesterday. I had been seeing Orthotylus marginalis all day and these just stuck out as different, so I was expecting Lygocoris rugicollis. The first antenna segment is green and so are wing membranes, not sure if pronotoum is right tho. Thanks

Fab night last night, still got a few to check but garden year list now on 261, 3 lifers being Hemp Agrimony Plume, Gypsonoma aceriana and the star of the show, an incredible Palpita vitrealis. Was over the moon to finally get one of these, best of all in my garden trap. #mothsmatter

The night of 21/06 was incredible with 2 Scarlet Tigers and White Point being NFG, 9 NFYS and 3 lifers, Endothenia marginana (gendet), Ypsolopha ustella and Cammeria brittaniodactylus. Year list now on 253 #mothsmatter

Quality over quantity last night, an astonishing 4 Leopard Moths being the highlight, also 3 Elephants and 1 Poplar HM. Year list slowly climbing still, at 224 now. The Mirid Orthotylus marginalis was NFM last night too. Today was made great by a Collared Pratincole at St Aidans though! #mothsmatter

I can’t decide what species though as I can’t find anything online for confirming features of O.alni, eg. a photo of the ovipositor. Can you do anything with it? Thanks

Was over the moon to find one Red-tipped Clearwing and two Currant Clearwings in their respective lures today! Red-tipped was NFG, and Currant was a lifer! #mothsmatter

Another good night in the garden, 6 year ticks taking year list to 212. Highlights included Leopard Moth, first alive in the garden after I found a wing in 2020, Barred Yellow, Mottled Beauty, Peach Blossom, 3 Peppered, White + Buff Ermine + 2 Elephant Hawks. #mothsmatter (plus Lesser Stag NFG)

Tried the FUN lure on Saturday night and got 2 Grapholita funebrana and 2 Grapholita tenebrosana, both new for me! #mothsmatter

Shall never get tired of Hawkmoths, had 6 Elephants and 2 Limes last night, always brings a smile :) #mothsmatter

A bumper 2 nights, taking the year list in to the 200s. 5 NFG + 3 NFM is a very good show! Ephemera danica was also an excellent garden tick, plus plenty of wetland beetles that will be NFG to look at later. It feels like the season is into full swing! #mothsmatter
