Fresh off the card we got a nice crescent Moon shot is clouds @ 1/5th second, as slow as I am willing to go hand held, using the Nikon P610 Bridge Camera.

Last night's Moon, Mars and Comet shots don't appear to have made it to the page ... so here is September 24 Moon and Mars. No likely hood of any astro shots this evening.

Oh goody ... DOCTOR Nick Coatsworth will be on NBN 9 News at 4:30pm to clear up the Tylenol/Paracetamol debacle. THAT WILL BE INTERESTING!!

Another event for this evening 23 sept is the re-appearance of the Moon. Still young and fresh and close to the sun it will get fuller and higher every day and dim out our Comets in the next few days.

This evening September 23 Comet C/2025 R2 (Swan) climbe further away from Mars, The much dimmer C/2025 K1 (ATLAS) continues to elude me. Damn I am having a hard time not calling C/2025 R2 (Swan) as "Comet R2D2".

With Mars in the bottom right corner we have the Comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN) climbing higher each night. I am sure that C/2025 K1 (ATLAS) is somewhere in that shot to the right of Mars but too dim for me.

For any wondering why the light is funny this morning ... the Moon in in the way.

Only a few more days to catch this Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN) before the Moon make it´s appearance in the west and possibly a few shots before it gets bright enough to wash out the tail. Then a bit of a holiday until after the full moon on October 7th.

Came across this shot of ¨The Emu Rising¨ from the beginning of this year on a wonderful night of 24 hour power blackout. You will see the head of the Emu touching the bottom star of the Southern Cross. A strong symbol in Australian First Nations Culture.

Pic 3 in that sequence tells the best story, The Cross is almost in the top right corner, then down and left are the 2 pointers (pic 2). Most of the Milky Way shows the Aboriginal Astronomical features of the Emu Rising while centre left we have Scorpio with the red Antares.

Three Shots on a 10mm Fisheye F/5.9 @ 25 seconds. West, South West and North West.

Clear condition west 20th September and that means COMETIES, specifically C/2025 R2 (Swan) which at 7pm will be due west In that red target area slightly to the left and above Mars. It is now about 3/4 AU or 110,000 km from us and a magnitude of 7.3, to dim for eyes. Binocs OK.

Hmm .. wet cats jumping on my lap ... who needs weather forecasters.

Yon Comety will be a no-show for me tonight 19th Sept.

And we gots us a Comety thing (green dot and tail) now closer to Mars. Comet C/2025 F2 (SWAN) captured on Sony a6000 and an adapted Nikoor AiS 180mm F/2.8 lens 2.5 secs ISO 4000, from near Tamworth NSW Australia 18th September 2025.

Once again in my hunt for the elusive Comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN) I have drawn a blank ... I am sure it is there somewhere between and slightly above Spica on the Left and Mars on the right. Tried this 50mm lens and a sharp 17mm at different ISOs but no cigar.

Last shot for tonight, with no clouds we have the Milky Way shot on a 17mm F/1.4 lens perfect for my Sony a6000.

The Carina region below the Southern Cross, we won´t be seeing it for too much longer as it is setting in the next few days. Pic 2 is a crop of pic 1 gussied up a touch.

Lots of satellites but still no comet C/2025 R2 SWAN. Not even at higher ISO light sensitiviy.

And these cloods were the reason there were no attempts at the Comet tonight at 7pm, but they add a bit of drama and flavour to a Milky Way shot at 9:30pm. Sept 15th. Using a 17mm wide angle TTArtisans F/1.4 for 13 seconds, ISO 2500 on Sony a6000 camera.

And yet again the sun set in the West. Lack of clouds could mean a clean shot at the region where Comet Swan25B is due to appear.

Get your eyeballs ready .. 7pm due west. Dim so Binocs or a Camera are helpful.

Swan25B is a recently seen comet in the afternoon/evening sky, unsees previously as it was coming toward us from behind the sun but now emerged and will grow more visible as it ascends. Took a shot last night but wasn't in the frame. Getting closer to Spica daily and below Mars.

And tonight the full Spring Moon September 7th 2025, and before the sun comes up in the morning the shadow of the Earth will totally eclipse it. I HAVE A CLEAR SKY!!

The Moon is a glorious 97.8% illuminated this evening if you care to adventure out. Tomorrow the full Moon but after 2:30am Monday morning it will start disappearing for an hour or 3 and fully emerging just before the sunrise after 6:am.

A bit of clear sky just has to mean shoot the Moon again, currently 94% and got my Pentax P610 working again. Big event on Sunday night after midnight when the Moon falls into the Earth´s shadow after midnight and remains eclipsed till Dawn on Monday (Australia).

One of the reasons I like Mirrorless cameras, in my case a Sony a6000, is that adapters can be had to fit almost anyone´s old glass. This series I am using a Nikon Q Auto that will not even fit Nikon DSLRs but man they are delicious old lenses. Here foreground 50 metre BG 1500m

First Spring Moon of 2025 (with craters) and a sunset with some colours.

With a bright half Moon glaring away a few degrees right to the right of the shot I bring you a crop from the 50mm F/1.1 Kamlan lens. Pic 2 and 3 are the Moon meeting Antares ... the heart of the Scorpion.

Almost forgot ... there was a rather nice Moon thing last night.

Shooting on a weird old Tamron 28mm M42 lens tonight, the guy who sold it to me didn´t understand what it was but it isn´t too bad. The way it is able to overshoot infinity makes me think it could work on a Nikon F mount even, rare for a screw on lens, try soon.

Using a 9mm Brightin Star F/5.6 Fisheye lens tonight and in it´s natural state it doesn´t really collect enough light ... Until I tweak a few values and make a crop to bring out my favorite piece of sky even the cookers can´t ruin for me ... around the Southern Cross.

And high up in a cloud filled sky we gets da Moon again. Now at 23.6% illuminated and preparing for Sunday night/Monday Morning Lunar Eclipse from midnight to dawn.

This evening August 27th the this crescent 15% and waxing Moon keeps close company with Spica while Mars sets a lonely course to the horizon.
