I run a small conference in the higher ed world. I anticipate getting emails like this for the next few weeks:

A professional meeting months in the planning, focused on creating a vision for engineering research that will support neurodiversity, supposed to take place Wed and Thurs and funded by NSF, was just cancelled. 50 of us packed and ready to go. Guess we were done in by that dirty word, "diversity."

People are being told to "have your papers with you" when they go out in case ICE tries to detain them. I'm thinking that it's a short step to making people wear symbols that identify them, and then another short step to hiding people in my basement and playing dumb when ICE arrives at my door.

When I told my colleagues we were leaving X and creating an account on Bluesky, one of them said, "but X is where most higher ed conversations are going on. Scholars aren't on Bluesky." I'd like to prove them wrong. Please suggest higher ed pros and scholars I can follow. #highered

Watched the Netflix series “Mr McMahon,” and it taught me a lot about MAGA, which had its seeds sown by WWF in the 1980s. McMahon, a loathsome man, said “all the audience wants is to be entertained.” I realized we’re no longer an electorate. We’re an audience. And I want to walk out of the show.
