A new article is now live on Glaciers & Whatnot! We're breaking down the slight increase in total mass balance of the Antarctic ice sheet and exploring how climate change deniers abuse authentic data 🥼❄️ ⚒️

This got me blocked by 27 people so far. Diversity of thought is punished here and that's a huge problem.

It sucks that if you diverge even slightly from the most popular opinion on here, people will just start blocking and berating you. We need to be doing better.

I applied for the NSF GRFP last year as a Masters student. I graduated. Can I apply again this year as someone who is no longer a student? Or do I need to wait? ⚒️

Scientists shouldn't block major peddlers of disinformation. Their propaganda spreads without our intervention. For climate change, Trump wants to see Matthew Wielicki's and Judith Curry's propaganda in American schools via PragerU. If we block, we are being complicit in the disinformation.

Keep sciencing. We are living through a time when looking at a rock and wondering how old it is qualifies as an act of resistance.

The NSF just the other day declared dissent against the Trump administration. If the NSF does nothing, if we do nothing, it was all just words on paper. If you're fearing retaliation, you are already being retaliated against.

NASA employees have released their own 'dissent' letter, joining NIH and EPA employees in protesting agency changes in the Trump administration. They call it the Voyager Declaration. Words by me: 🧪🛰️

The EPA has eliminated its research division, which for decades has provided the science behind regulations on clean air, clean water, and toxic chemicals. The US can afford to monitor, research, and regulate the impacts of industries on human and environmental health. We are just choosing not to.

Is it really that hard for people to resist nazi propaganda? I've been surrounded by hateful people on that app for years. It's pretty easy to not fall for their lies... Maybe it's because I fight it?

Last February, I led a proposal submission that encompassed six months, hundreds of hours, four institutions, a massive team, and and 256 pages. NSF just informed us that the entire Biology Integration Institute program was archived and our proposal would not even be reviewed. With a form email.

Whatever orange man tried to get out of this weekend (violence to spin, a crowd to gather at his parade, any reason to justify an expansion of power), he failed. But don't fall asleep yet. He will try to provoke us more. Stay focused and stay strong, everyone.

I find it sad when people block me for calling Bluesky an echo chamber. Really does reinforce my point, though. I'm not harassing anyone, being mean, or throwing insults. Some people simply just don't like what I'm saying, and they block me. Does nobody else see the problem with that??

I get that, I really do. But for the scientific community specifically, and science communicators, we need to to clash with anti-intellectualism and people interested in dismantling our livelihoods. Scientists who have blocked climate change deniers, they troll you to get you to block them.

I'm no doomer, but managing to get elected twice, dodge federal prison and rape allegations, undermine congress in federal budget matters, undermine federal judges, undermine state sovereignty, and manipulate a wide population of the United States, isn't exactly the face of incompetence.
