The KBA identification process is highly inclusive, consultative, and nationally driven. National Coordination Groups, and anyone with appropriate data, may propose a site as a KBA. Discover more about the proposing process here 🌐 bit.ly/4dhash3

IPLCs play a key role in the identification of many KBAs. ✅A great example is Ecuador, where the participation of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador in the KBA process, resulted in the identification of 13 KBAs in the territories of Amazonian nationalities.

KBAs are a cornerstone for achieving the 23 action targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reinforcing the interconnectedness of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. 🗺️

By prioritizing #KBAs in land-use and marine spatial planning, governments and stakeholders can ensure that development activities minimize impacts on critical habitats, enhance connectivity between ecosystems, and support the ambitious targets of the #KMGBF.
