Draw/paint everything around you, don't just focus on one specific thing. You'll get so good at that one thing, but if you sketch/paint everything you'll have a much more varied skillset to play with.

as an artist who works at a company, and gets sent ai art to copy, refine, and fix fuck larian and fuck gen ai and fuck how we artists get treated by greedy, cheap fucks with no integrity its demoralizing and disgusting, and many of us don't have other choices for work

It's almost 2026, at this point in time everyone in the industry knows what GenAi is and where it came from. It doesn't matter what you use it for, even if it's "just for references" (which also?? 🤡). If you value human craft you should avoid it like the plague, it's that simple.

Also, congratulations everyone who made something this year. A comic, a song, a film, a novel, a painting, a poem, a short story, a sculpture, crochet, embroidery, whatever it is. In this era of slop and theft, if you *make* something you are a shining jewel and I am so grateful for you.

I'll say it once and I'll say it again. If you think artists are just "naturally talented", you're deeply wrong. The only difference between you and us is that we kept trying when it didn't come out like we hoped. You can always make art yourself. There's no bad time to start, you can start now.

just in case anyone hasnt said this you can be against censorship while also having boundaries. all those people that make you uncomfortable, you are more than welcome to not want to be around them but you should still advocate for their right to create those things that make you uncomfortable.
