Still think this is one of Lydia's best (and most underrated) drawings. Every time we feature it in a short, it doesn't catch on. So I'm just going to keep posting it places until people acknowledge how fire all that water is.

Our latest uncut inking video is a wild blend of sketchy, looseness and total understanding of perspective and architecture. Lydia is something else.

The issue that concerns me about AI is not AI by itself, it's the weird convergence of growing anti-intellectualism/lack of curiosity ALONGSIDE the rise of AI. Even in the 4-5 years I've been making content about comics, I feel like the comments are fewer and less thoughtful.

Our next longform lettering video clocks in at just over 16 minutes, but it's packed full of goodness. I will always brag about how much info we can pack into our videos, when other channels would bloat it out to 30-60 mins for the same info.

Ima be honest. If I had known when I started YouTube & TikTok that I had secret powers of actually making videos people would want to watch, I might have chosen a niche that had a little more inherent excitement. Because it's really hard to make speech balloon stroke weight interesting sometimes...

Latest lettering video had an incredibly kind response from the tourette's community and those with tics. It took a lot of research, but this was the lettering system I tried to build. Working on the second video that clarifies these decisions even more.

Time to publicly admit my love of the found footage horror genre. Gimme that shaky camcorder footage and a spooky lack of context ALL DAY. Never understood the hate it gets. It’s such a great way to hide a lack of budget inside a specific aesthetic and it’s so immersive

Seriously considering creating an educational video about the impact of tariffs on small business, using our comic publisher as an example. It might actually be the first tangible example our (mostly younger) audiences actually sees.

Can’t stop thinking about this single example from Scott McCloud and how many storytelling problems this solves if you need to end a sequence.

Sigh. My voice sounds professional and I get this reaction a lot when I narrate our videos. I've never used AI voice gen and never will use AI voice gen when creating Bad Ink content. Sorry that I actually balance levels and it doesn't sound like heavy breathing into an iphone mic.

So much to unpack here. But perhaps anyone defending AI as “it’s actually hard and takes longer than you think” should instead wonder about investing that time in practicing drawing.

Listening to the Hobbit audiobook while I work and I'm struck by how much vibrant color Tolkien describes. The movies really desaturated the characters to death. But the 1990 Hobbit graphic novel is so correct.

We don't talk enough about how amazing David Wenzel's art was for the 1990 Hobbit graphic novel. I mean, people do talk about it. But it's still not enough.

Everyone makes fun of millennial gray aesthetic but what if we millennials just started calling it “manga monochrome” to make it sound cool and artful.

I have yet to figure out how to make content about writing that is as engaging as the inking/coloring/lettering videos. So much of writing is just sitting and thinking. Hard to make that engaging in a short attention span world.

The most common question we get is “how do I show sign language for my deaf/nonverbal character.” If you’re asking because you think it makes your character original, know there’s hundreds of indie creators with the same question.
