The final shot of L'Avventura is remarkable. The two leads, together. Looking out, but 3/4ths of the shot is a wall blocking their view. It could mean that there is no future or that their future will always have a block they have to overcome. It's heartbreaking and beautiful. And also... funny.

I very much enjoyed F1. Maverick with cars. But it does have some Bruckheimer moments. You think to yourself "They're working as a team. Cool." And then five seconds later the announcer says "They're working as a team!" I member when 90's action films told you what was happening as it happened.

The MCU has a first two episodes problem. Almost every series the ground work is unstable. In Ironheart, she has a top-of-the-line AI and can't figure out who Joe is? Finding that out in ep 2 would have given some real stakes between them. Instead, a whole episode has to pass. A waste of story time.

3 episodes in and we finally get to know something about Riri that solidifies the core of her character and who she is. Now I have a reason to care.

I'm dm'ing a game right now and the group is facing an ever expanding cult. I'm not taking it easy on them. But I relish when the heroes obliterate them because the cult echoes what I see in MAGA leadership. And my players HATE them.
