I love romance because, like, I know they’re going to get together. So I can put that out of my mind and watch how it unfolds, what twists and turns it takes, what it reveals about the characters and their relationship to the world. It’s like a walled garden for character study.

I wouldn't say it's a problem but I have guesses. 1. Indie animation isn't as attainable, so you get less variety. 2. It's harder to get online engagement with it if it's not Mr. Beast-y. 3. You're more likely to get studio backing with family friendly content, so more mature ideas go indie.
