Old. Lost in the world of Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons.
Wondering why the Amazons were still wearing their knitted hats in the extreme heat of Pigeon Post.

Reading about 'Camp Might Have Been' in Pigeon Post reminded me of some of our camp sites: Camp 1 in 10 (on a hillside), Camp Don't (too many rules), Camp Quickly (a storm coming).

Newly repaired with sellotape. 1969 edition. A warm read on a very cold day.

We know a lot about Mr. Dixon and Grandpa Swainson but little about Mr. Jackson at Holly Howe. Just that he was big and powerful. I wonder why not?

Just finished a leisurely read of WH and wished I hadn't reached the end. So, what to read next? Maybe I will just go back to the beginning...

It seems that one member of the Arctic expedition thought that flying a plague flag at the North Pole would keep polar bears away as 'they won't be keen on getting mumps'.

I have read Winter Holiday many times but only just noticed the wonderful phrase 'Her mind was in the oven'. (Mrs. Dixon baking her famous pork pies.)
