Empire Burlesque 40 week concludes with designer Nick Egan, the new-wave artist who also worked with Bob on Biograph. "Unfortunately it didn’t end well, but I still love him. I certainly got the best stories out of working with him." And he's quick to note the photo on the cover is not his fault.

Synthesizer…on a Bob Dylan record?? It's a big reason Empire Burlesque gets dinged as sounding 'so 80s.' So I interviewed two of the album's synth players. "My first reason was 'Really??' I felt almost mildly embarrassed to be involved."

Bob Dylan's tenth studio album, "Self Portrait," was released on this day in 1970. After the country sounds of "Nashville Skyline," Dylan changed course again with "Self Portrait," a collection of folk songs, originals and live performances from the 1969 Isle of Wight Festival.
