A rather optimistic attempt with the trap last night, but two striking Mottled Umbers (plus a surprising variety of flies) as reward. Tonight looks more suitable so will doubtless try again. VC 11, SW Hants #teammoth

Ran the trap until 2130 yesterday evening and managed a NFY December Moth and a Yellow-line Quaker. Former took the garden year list to a nice round 550 (exc aggs), where it will presumably now stay. Last year's final tally was 512 + aggs. #teammoth

Some surprise @migrantmothuk.bsky.social action this morning with a Turnip and 3 Rusty-dot Pearls in a customer's porch (New Milton, SW Hants). I think it's safe to assume that they've been there for a few days though!! #teammoth

Couldn't really pass up the opportunity to photograph the night's TEN Merveille du Jours. Rounding them up was fine. Getting them to sit still for a pic a challenge. No way it was going to happen successfully on a lichen-covered tree trunk so the patio had to suffice! #teammoth

A nice NFY but a bit of frustration when releasing the moths, with the discovery of this Fox Moth larva. My release site is only about 150ish metres from home, but it's a species yet to appear (in any shape or form) in the garden. Maybe next year . . . #teammoth

A year ago today this was in the bottom of my trap: Britain's 1st Nodaria nodosalis, ID confirmed by DNA analysis at the NHM 10 days ago. Still unsure what English name it'll have, getting a little CMR pushback about my desire to name it after my kids. Maybe I should just call it Keen's 🤔 #teammoth

July's year-on-year comparison is easy due to an identical number of trapping nights: July 2024: 3144 from 20 traps July 2025: 4814 from 20 traps August was last year's best mothing so it'll be interesting to see how this month shapes up. #teammoth

A few hours at Martin Down (VC 9) this morning was quiet moth-wise, with Shaded Broad-bar the only NFY. Butterflies were dominated by Chalkhill Blues, with 435 counted (male & female shown); also a single Adonis Blue #teammoth
