Pretomanid is a key anti-TB drug. Current EMA-approved label restricts its use to the BPaL regimen & only MDR/XDR-TB, “when antibiotics used for the latter form of TB do not work or cause unacceptable side effects.” This implies using older regimens. In this Editorial, we call for label expansion:

Treating drug-resistant TB patients? Nice little overview of WHO-recommended regimens for RR/MDR/XDR-TB and discussion of safety of clofazimine (Cfz). The authors conclude that Cfz should be used with caution in patients with multiple risk factors for QTc prolongation. Read on:

Tuberculosis 150 years! #TB incidence in #Denmark 1876–2022 and public health interventions and historical events. Incidence declined remarkably, peaking around the world wars and systematic mass TB screenings in 1946 + 1951. Highest incidence was in 1883 (652/100,000) vs lowest 2021 (4/100,000).

31 yrs nationwide data, #migrants have a higher, but stable, burden of #nontuberculous #mycobacteria compared with Danish-born. The higher rates likely reflect that more specimens are examined for TB. Microbiologically classified definite NTM disease is not substantially more common among migrants.

#Nontuberculous #mycobacteria (NTM) are emerging. To examine clinical #significance, species #distribution, and temporal #trends in #Denmark, we performed a nationwide study of all persons with NTM 1991-2022 (n=4,123), categorized as having definite disease, possible disease, or isolation.
