There's tension between "People come to SF for GDC" and "GDC is a good excuse for people to come to SF." Yerba Buena started as a recognition that it's the latter that matters. It's the people, not the event. But GDC would like it to be the former, and invaded a scene that threatened that vision.

It's pretty funny after all of the trepidation, all of the "What does this rebrand mean?", to go to the GDC show floor and be like "Oh cool, this still sucks ass and is boring (complimentary)."
