It was a privilege to sit down with Prime Minister Mia Mottley on the sidelines of UNGA. She continues to lead the global fight for climate justice, demanding that vulnerable nations have a fair chance to thrive in the face of climate change.

The Open Society Foundations have unequivocally condemned the horrific murder of Charlie Kirk. Our thoughts are with his family and all who are mourning his loss. A free and open society depends on people being able to express their views without fear of violence.

Sixty years ago today, the landmark Voting Rights Act was signed into law in the United States. It prohibited racial discrimination in voting. Before it, states practiced voter discrimination and denied Black and other nonwhite Americans their right to take part in elections.

60 years ago, the U.S. passed the Voting Rights Act, ending legalized racial discrimination in voting and moving us closer to our promise as a pluralistic democracy. It lifted all Americans.

Five years on, no one has been held accountable for the explosion that killed 236 and devastated Beirut. But there’s hope: the probe has resumed, and international cases are moving—thanks in part to Open Society partner Zena Wakim. Read more:

We mark Roma Holocaust Memorial Day by honoring the 500,000+ Roma and Sinti murdered by the Nazis. This genocide, like so much of Roma history, has been erased. We honor those lost by telling their story. Today and every day, I stand with the Roma fighting for justice and dignity.
