The way to energy security is not found in relying on oil and gas. It's in renewables manufacturing here in Scotland.

A company owned by a Canadian multinational managing more than $1 trillion in assets is opening 3 new wind farms in South Lanarkshire. They're investing in Scotland because they'll get a return on their investment. What will Scotland get? crumbs. 💸

After being elected as First Minister, John Swinney set out a vision for Scotland. He's right. We do need to transition to clean energy. But we need to make sure our communities and workers are seeing the benefits directly.

Did you know that you can look up the privately-owned wind farm in your area and see how much they give to your community?

A new Scottish Government means new opportunities for us to keep pushing them on our priorities and their commitments. Scotland needs more community-owned energy, a public stake in offshore wind, and a real just transition for workers!

🤔 I wonder why the president of the country who acts as the world's oil and gas middle man wouldn't want us to rely on renewables? The truth is that we need more control over our energy system, not less. That means a public stake in offshore wind and more community-owned energy!

The community at North Uist owns 2 900kW wind turbines called Finn and Flora. The two turbines have outstripped expectations and have generated 939 MWh in March. That's enough to power 300 homes!

It's customary for privately-owned wind farms to pay the community they're located in a "community benefit fund." The Scottish government recommends around £5,000/MW. But that's often times not met. But, that's nothing in comparison to what landlords are getting in rents from these wind farms!

New research from @theferret.scot shows that landlords, developers, and big energy companies are making huge profits from the wind farms in our communities. For example, in 2025, a landlord received £11m in rent from a wind project. That's 23 times more than was paid to the local community!

Good morning and congratulations to all the new MSPs. It's time for a fairer energy system in Scotland that puts our communities and workers first!

Obviously great news, but here's the thing no one is talking about: wind and solar generation aren't enriching our communities as much as they could if they were community owned. Community-owned wind farms keep profits locally delivering 34 times more benefit than privately owned wind farms.

Today's the day! Get out there and make your voice heard.

Here's the truth about the transition to renewables in Scotland: workers and communities in Scotland have been left behind. Talented workers with important specialised skills are being tossed aside while energy companies are raking in cash. We need a real just transition.

When it comes to oil, gas, or renewables too many get stuck debating policy and politics. But, there is no energy without workers. Not only have oil and gas workers been left behind in the energy transition, but they’ve laboured under unsafe conditions from the start. #IWMD

Stu from @fuelpovertyaction.bsky.social is right: The way our energy system works now is unfair and letting it remain so fuels the far right. The next Scottish government has to do everything in their power to boost community energy, manufacturing in Scotland and public ownership.

It's absolutely true that renewables are our way to energy security, but renewables alone aren't good enough. We need to make sure that our communities and workers are benefiting from renewables! The next Scottish government can make sure that happens.

If workers aren't part of the plan, it's not a just transition it's a corporate take over!
