Been thinking a lot lately about my Celtic YA fantasy and how I just can't let it go. I have gotten SO close! So many times! One agent even wrote me a near-ESSAY on what she loved about it. But it always comes down to "almost".

I love drafting. I hate editing, or rather, I completely forget how to edit every time I write a book. *stares blankly at document*

Opened my draft as I need to get back to work on it and it has not miraculously turned into a perfect book like I hoped. What a scam.

It's a new month, which means my break is over and it's time to get on with my new (and hopefully final) draft! ✍️

I finished my second draft. It's actual garbage but it's finished. Now to have a rest.

How is my second draft WORSE than the first

When you're two drafts into a book that is likely completely unmarketable and will be dead on arrival when querying it but you love it anyway so you keep chugging away at it

I haven't drawn properly for ages but I've been trying to doodle some of my characters from my witch book and I like how it's going so far!

My first draft is done 😭😭😭 It's actual garbage but it EXISTS. I was so worried about re-writing my YA fantasy as adult but I think it works and I'm so excited to delve into planning the second draft 🖤

Had a great time today at Andmore, a fan-run event celebrating the talent behind the camera for Andor! It was so cool to hear from graphic designers, set decorators, droid builders and more. I also got to show Barry Gingell my tattoo of his crest design and he gave me a fist bump 😀

I didn't do much today besides reading SPEAR by Nicola Griffith (@nicolaz.bsky.social), and this book truly felt made for me - a gender-bent, queer retelling of the Arthurian story of Peretur. Beautifully written & taking inspiration from different strands of Celtic mythology, I just loved it.

For 2025 my main goal is to finish drafting and revising my next project, which can basically be summed up as a mashup of Yellowjackets, W.I.T.C.H. and Buffy. It is also set to be my most difficult book to write, as it's really going to test me in terms of craft. But I'm determined to get it done 💪
