Leaders’ statement on #Ukraine 👇

Today we have discussed the current situation and we are clear that there should be nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. As next steps, European leaders will meet tomorrow in the margins of G20 and then in Angola at the EU-AU meeting.

Together with @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu we have spoken to President Zelenskyy. From day 1, Europe has stood with Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. We have been working for a just and sustainable peace with Ukraine and for Ukraine together with our friends and partners. ↓

Blending tradition and technology, the Innovation and Bioeconomy Park in Belém, a #COP30 delivery, is an example of how to process the incredibly rich produce of the Amazon in a local and fully sustainable manner.

Inspiring to see how the state of Pará is putting bioeconomy and sustainability at the core of its agenda, becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

Today, the #EUCO delivered an important message: The EU is committed to addressing Ukraine's pressing financial needs for the next two years, including support for its military and defence efforts. Russia must stop the war immediately.

The European Council just held an in-depth discussion on how to make sure that Europe’s climate ambitions and the competitiveness of our economy go hand in hand. We reaffirmed our commitment to the Paris Agreement and stressed that we need to be pragmatic and flexible in our strategy.

Today, we agreed on priorities, timelines, governance. In a world of growing threats, we are accelerating our defence readiness: at pace, at scale, and together.

Today we are closing an important first cycle in our efforts to build the Europe of Defence. Since February, we have made major advances on this topic – with new tools and instruments for bolstering Europe’s defence capabilities, following a 360-degree strategy and in full coherence with NATO.

This week we are hosting the first ever EU-Egypt summit in Brussels. 🇪🇺🇪🇬 Egypt is a strategic partner for the EU and a stabilising force in the Middle East and beyond. This summit marks a new chapter in our relationship.

In our meeting today with President Jakov Milatovic, we agreed to hold the 2026 EU-Western Balkans summit on 1 June in Montenegro. It will be wonderful to hold the summit in the region and in the country that is making impressive progress towards EU accession.

Once again, the people of Moldova made their voice heard: they chose Europe. We heard them loud and clear. In Copenhagen today, we discussed with President Maia Sandu how we can speed up progress towards the European future that Moldovans voted for.

Our goal remains a strong and free Ukraine. Russia needs to know that the EU and its partners have the will and the means to continue supporting Ukraine until a just and lasting peace is achieved. Soon, we will launch a new programme to give Ukraine the tech edge it needs on the battlefield.

As the UN Charter turns 80, we gather here with heavy hearts as war rages in places like Gaza, Ukraine or Sudan, and the multilateral system is under growing strain. Yet these challenges cannot weaken our resolve.
