Our national team shirt includes the three colours of the Icelandic flag and the gyrfalcon, our national bird. Our main sponsor in 2025 is Bara Tala, an app for learning the Icelandic language.

When we invented the sport circa 911 CE, we called it knattleikr. This literally means the ball sport in Old Norse, but then a few people said it didn't make sense to the English brain, so they started calling it cricket. Nobody knows what the word cricket means.

History lesson. When the Vikings set sail for new lands from Scotland and Ireland, the weak and seasick got off in the Faroe Islands. The strong characters continued to Iceland. The truly deranged and desperate carried on to Greenland. There's no cricket in Faroes or Greenland.

Fun fact of the day: Did you know that our entire national population can fit into less than 4 MCGs? In fact, if we were allowed to use the field as well as the stands, our whole nation could be squeezed into one MCG. Our largest sports stadium, Laugardalsvöllur, currently holds 9,800 spectators.

The Ashes has the most iconic trophy in cricket. That's the Volcanic Ashes, which is stuffed full of real ash from Icelandic volcanic eruptions. Here, you see the trophy on a rare day out, but it's normally in a triple-glazed & alarmed case in our cricket museum in Reykjavik.

Season 2025 got even better today for Hafnarfjörður Hammers as they overcame an all-star Chairman's XI by a margin of 2 wickets to claim the Samuel Gill Trophy. Man of the match was Muneeb, who bludgeoned a quickfire 27* off 11 balls from no. 10 in the order. Transformational.

Today is the final day in the Icelandic domestic cricket season, and what a glorious ride it has been. Our last match sees the news ÍPL champions, Hafnarfjörður Hammers, taking on a Chairman's XI in the Samuel Gill Trophy. The Chairman has assembled a de facto national team.

Hafnarfjörður Hammers are our new Íslensk Premier League champions for 2025. In a dominant performance, they dispatched Reykjavík Vikings by 8 wickets. Asif Ali was the man of the match, following a performance which included 51* with the bat, 3-34 with the ball, and a great catch.

After three months of competition, the Íslensk Premier League (ÍPL) finally reaches its conclusion today. In the biggest match of our season, who can claim the title? The match between Reykjavík Vikings and Hafnarfjörður Hammers will begin at 13:30 UTC time, and be live streamed.

For the first ever time, @HafnarfjordHamr have tasted glory in the Valhalla Cup today. After positing an impressive total of 218, with half centuries from Sherzad and Raza, they bowled Reykjavík out for 172, winning by 56 runs. An auspicious day in their club's history!
