Trying to use DFhack to see if i can emulate predator behavior. Tigers don't want to PVP your village, they want to grab the weakest link and run off. Imagine an adventuring party and one guy gets yanked into the dark by an ogre. Do you pursue and risk a fight or cut your losses? That's strategy.

Every time april fools comes up i have this fantasy of making a total conversion that makes every single thing in DF into a crab. Crab stones, crab people, crab crops. The issue is it would be just as time-consuming as an actual total conversion and thus insane to do. But in theory I could.

I wish more people knew about handgonnes. That there was this Cambrian Explosion of firearms before the iconic gun shape was settled on. Any hunk of wood or pole of metal could have a tube affixed to it and people would just rawdog that. Maybe weld a blade on it. All in the 1200s-1300s. Insane.

Got Horripilant while looking for weird dark fantasy inspo. Went in blind; I was expecting something somber and plodding like an old school dark souls or king's field in clicker format with puzzles. This is also fine

Went to take out trash, stymied by this foul beast in its cavern (harmless carpenter bee (singular) in burrow) (large) (scary), engaged in a tense standoff (to avoid hurting the bee) (it kept diving at me). Thinking what if it was the size of a cat and a TTRPG party was on a narrow ledge. Plotting.

It works.

Shrubland which tapers to the edge of an old forest with thick undergrowth. Could be anything in there. I love ascii. Don't even see the tiles anymore.

The big Long Night update is finally out on steam! Lots of new stuff from procgen domestic animals to a completely overhauled tripartite "magic" system complete with type affinities for posthumans. I hope it is enjoyable.

I recommend reading the manga MAD. Its kind of like if Fire Punch was about xenomorphs, but I'm underselling it.

Finishing up the year with some good news; entering the final stretch of development for a big update I'm planning. It started out just implementing procgen animals but I've gone and developed a magic system so its just a matter of filling that out and getting the creatures to play nice with it.

It is 3 in the morning and I have gotten custom night creatures to work. You know dwarf fortress eye of snodub and such I have gotten it so that when someone conquers your village they will SOMA(tm) you so bad and turn your copied ego into a gigantic murder robot. You'll also be able to be one.

ASCII is at once incredibly freeing creatively and offers up entirely new constraints in that you must convey one has encountered a hippopotamus-sized spider made of flesh and machinery equipped with a missile battery with only a single glyph and a short taxonomic classification.

I have been known to dabble in pixels from time to time. My posing is atrocious, proportions questionable, I don't know how to shade at all but I feel like this does an ok job of approaching Long Night aesthetics, at least for one particular faction or another. Others might be blockier or pointy.

I should probably nerf firing speeds

Working on procedurally generating every domestic animal for my mod. i've finally gotten the core system working. Difficulty and price calculators for all creatures have been added too, everything will dynamically gain those values as they are generated. Should add a lot more variety between civs.

I've said it earlier but it really was a pleasure to be here, and the mods were really cool too!

Scheming about the options the siege update will give me. Hoping for tanks and artillery, will settle for letting my already extant mechs punch through walls.
