A new poll from my alma mater, the University of Houston, dropped this morning on the Texas Senate primary… and it’s VERY good news for fellow UH alum Jasmine Crockett. In short, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett is leading the Democratic primary, 47% to 39% over James Talarico.

For all it’s worth, Amanda Edwards is a selfless and committed public servant. Suspending her campaign, I’m sure, was a difficult decision—but a necessary one in the shared goal of putting people over politics. She ran a tireless and inspiring campaign… until the end.

At this point in the race, Jasmine Crockett doesn’t need a complicated message. She needs visibility. This ad does exactly that. It puts her name and face in front of voters and reminds them, very simply, that there’s an election and she’s on the ballot.

Things we learned with last night’s results: Elected officials make terrible consultants. Innately positive people should never go negative. Someone who could barely carry their own district endorsing you is a nail in the coffin before anything else. The good guy always wins.
