Should this footbridge be repainted to ensure a long life, or is it purely cosmetic? The Haugh bridge, Rothbury, I only noticed today!

It makes you wonder why the company Plantir picked the name. It comes from The Lord of the Rings. A Plantir was a magical all-seeing stone that could show far off things relevant to the user. However the dark lord Sauron had one and used his power so that others would see what he wanted them to [β¦]

I took our local walking group to Dove Crag. I thought it was a good choice because it's easy walking but surprisingly difficult to find. They seemed to like it.

I've really put a downer on the Friday walking group. The walk was described as intermediate, 4 miles, easy paths. After walking about 4 miles the leased announced that he hadn't recced this part of the walk and wasn't sure where he was. At this point some people were suffering slightly because [β¦]

I decided to miss today's u3a walk. After last week, which had an event every day, I just wanted to do a familiar walk alone, one that I don't need to look at maps for. So I've come to Simonside via Garleigh hill and Whitton. Surprisingly it's really quiet [β¦]

I finally found my way to Dove Crag near Holystone. I've heard some people say they where underwhelmed by it, but after walking on tracks in the sun, this felt like a sacred grotto to me. There was only a trickle of water rather than a waterfall, but it felt cool.
