Yesterday we welcomed Kilvinder Vigurs, the South Yorkshire's Deputy Mayor for Policing & Crime to VIDA Sheffield. In our conversation, we spoke about something central to our work: Recovery is prevention.

This Sun 1st March is is Self-Harm and Self-Injury Awareness Day - a global day to raise understanding, reduce stigma, and promote compassionate support for anyone affected by self-harm. Whether someone is harming themselves or supporting someone who is, no one should have to struggle in silence.

This week is Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week. Sexual abuse and sexual violence can leave deep psychological impacts — long after the abuse itself has ended.

Healing doesn’t happen all at once. And it doesn’t happen on a timeline you have to justify. At @vida-sheffield.bsky.social we often meet women who feel pressure to “be over it” — to cope better, feel stronger, or move on faster.

Our Peer Support Group is back! These are just some of the art activities the group have tried over recent weeks-diamond art, hama beads, ceramic painting, sequin baubles, sparkling snowflakes, necklace making, pipe cleaner flowers - all wonderfully creative! ✨

At @vida-sheffield.bsky.social we know that what looks like a symptom often began as a survival strategy.

The Wall of Impact. This is a snapshot from New Beginnings, our 4-week Psychoeducation programme for women who have experienced trauma and abuse. In Week 1, we ask: “How have your experiences affected you? What has been the impact of trauma?”

For many women who have experienced abuse, suicidal thoughts can feel overwhelming. Survivors are more likely to struggle with depression, anxiety, and PTSD - and too often, these difficulties can feel isolating.
