Vet follow up day, getting some good sniffs in along the way.

Prepping for the 2025 tomato sandwich taste test. Clockwise, starting top right we have our reigning champ, Black Krim, followed by Vintage Wine, Cherokee Purple, Big Rainbow, and Giant* Belgium in the middle. *The ones still on the plant are a better representation of their name.

This creature's reign of terror has come to an end. It's been hiding out in our heater for a couple days now, coming out at night to wreak havoc, triggering the cats and dogs into full chaos mode. After two sleepless nights I was able to disassemble the heater, catch it, and release it outside.

Trying to tackle the tomato haul before it gets out of hand, soup time! And a sandwich featuring the MVP of all tomatoes, black krim. So good~

Baking apple cider cookies for the hubs to take to work tomorrow. It's his last day at his new job before starting his new new job on Monday.

We're still waiting on results but Nutmeg has been SO happy since recovering from anesthesia. She must feel so much better after getting her butt juiced (lol ugh) Keeping my fingers crossed that that's all she needed.

I know it's been a while, outside of pet troubles I've been okay. Just haven't been super active online, might post to IG once in a while but that's about it. Social media ain't what it used to be. Oh to be back on LiveJournal in 2005. Those were the days 😂

Last month was an expensive pet month too. Olive was having coughing fits and it ended up being asthma. She's been good since we started her meds, and for a cat that's not super tolerant of things she doesn't like she's been relatively cooperative for her twice daily inhaler.

Brought Nutmeg to the vet for what I assumed was just an impacted anal gland and learned that it may be an aggressive form of cancer. She goes back in tomorrow for a procedure and hopefully we leave with some good news.

A little bit of a bittersweet farm update, I've decided to sell my turkeys. The plan was to raise their poults for meat but we don't eat enough turkey to justify the cost of keeping them year round. They're also terrible for eating chicken eggs, so...

Goots 🪿 4 weeks old now and I finally settled on names for them: Rhubarb, Rutabega, and Parsnip.

Update on the littlw injured turkey, she's doing well! Her wound closed up after a few days, and since turkeys aren't as pecky I brought her siblings inside so they wouldn't become estranged. The two chicks stayed with mama Pumpkin. She's fully healed now, living her best little turkey life.

Yesterday one of my turkey babies escaped their brooder. Pumpkin had dust bathed a hole under the fence and it squeezed out, and then was attacked by another chicken. Fortunately Meatball (my rooster) stepped in immediately so it wasn't critically injured, but it did sustain a pretty nasty wound.

Brought the kids to the pool today, they took to it like a duck (goose) to water.

Pumpkin had a good hatch day and is settling into motherhood nicely. Though I was a little worried there for a second because she kept picking the turkeys up by their feet 😭

Just got an alert, looks like the wildfire smoke is going to be really bad tomorrow, guess I should bring mama Pumpkin and her eggs inside tonight. I hope the move doesn't disrupt her too much, I'll get the incubator ready just in case.

Looking to attract some freaky birds to my yard

Not even a week into May and it's 30 friggen degrees My plan for today was supposed to be prepping garden beds for my cold weather crops, and I can't because it's too hot.

Some great news, the phone company just knocked on our door to let us know they may need to drop a few trees on our property because they're installing fiber down our road. So uh, fuck Starlink.

Operation Broody Relocation was a success. Hopefully we'll have some baby turkeys in 28 days!

Today's weather had me wishing I had hit up the advance polls, but I made it out despite the thunder and flooding. Crazy amount of rain today, my yard is now lakefront property. Anyway, good luck Canada.

The snow has finally melted (for the most part) and the sun is shining, beautiful day to get out in the garden! Cleaned out the greenhouse, pruned the roses, and pulled the mulch off the garlic. They'll look less sickly after a few days exposed to sunlight.

Cranberry is big mad. I've never seen any of the girls strut before but she seemed irritated when Butterscotch started courting another woman. It’s not easy being a sister wife.

I have a broody hen and fertile turkey eggs, I wonder if Pumpkin's up for raising some weird, gangly babies.

Sorry to get political but I think we should pay people to check for poop in our food

The little kid chickens love to eat with uncle Ichigo. He never fusses at them like he does the adult chickens, and the adult chickens don't mess with the turkeys so the kids can eat without being bossed around. Peace and love on planet earth

Not celebrating anything today but I'm looking forward to a nice Sunday roast dinner. Venison roast from the deer we harvested (with our car) last year, and Chris made a rub for it using homegrown herbs and some mushrooms we foraged from our property.

I wonder how difficult it would be to convince Chris that we should get some geese. We have a ton of unfinished projects, why not add building a goose house to the list?

I still can't get over how friendly these guys are. The second I reach in they all flock right to my hands.
