One of my favorite pieces of early 1980’s concept art, a medusa-like manifestation by H. R. Giger for POLTERGEIST 2: THE OTHER SIDE. Giger had designed the title character in A L I E N (1979), but I think the picture missed the whole Spielbergian element from the first film more than anything else.

One of the great ghost designs ever. Not sure if this is Alex Toth or Iwao Takamoto, but Hanna-Barbera had some Ana ing designers in its early days.

Really enjoyed Guillermo Del Toro’s FRANKENSTEIN. More closely aligned to the Shelly novel’s structure than the old Universal and Hammer films, this one has some ingenious horror set pieces as well as a scale not seen in previous movies. Highly recommended. @realgdt.bsky.social

Wrightson. From his seminal collaboration with @stephenking CYCLE OF THE WEREWOLF, which made such a terrific impression on me back in the day.

One of my favorite shots from BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA (1992). It’s an oversized journal prop with a miniature train. Fairly certain that the great Peter Ramsey boarded this scene. A unique combination of art history and Victorian era magic tricks, they don’t make ‘em like this anymore.
