I spent quite a lot of time with a YP today being redirected towards the question of whether a drinking straw had one or two holes. I was very much ‘team one hole’ before the visit but I’m not really sure now. It was a wonderful insight into his worldview but I’m now having an ontological crisis.

I’ve been introducing different models of supervision to a group of SENCOs and only armoured with a baggie of different everyday objects, I was pleasantly surprised how rich the reflections were / what meaning was uncovered while using the IMAGO model of supervision. #edpsychs

Really enjoyed the LGBTQ+ History month panel event @waterstones Piccadilly last week. It was really interesting to hear William Hussey, Cynthia So, and Simon James Green, discuss the themes within their work and the importance of LGBTQ+ representation within YA love stories.

My most rewarding day as an #edpsychs yet. A person-centred assessment that opened up new wonderings/ felt like an intervention followed by a rich picture/situation summary for a secondary school to map provisions for ‘disengaged students’. Lots of new thinking and transformative conversations.

During an observation, “You look like Harry Kane” [mixed feelings]. Then during some pupil voice regulated with some balloon keepy-uppies, “you’re definitely not Harry Kane” [mixed feelings]. Might need to unpack this in supervision….

I adore the gentle, cosy, romantic approach Heartstopper has to growing up. Watching Season 3 I’m truly impressed with its sensitive and accessible approach to relationships, school transitions, mental health and the LGBTQIA+ experience. I wish it existed when I was a teen. Go watch/read!

Another book recommendation, it’s a cosy fantasy about Linus Baker, a gov worker visiting a home for looked-after children. Linus is tasked by ‘extremely upper management’ to assess the children and the home’s ’unconventional approach’. It’s funny, heartwarming and oozes EP values. loved it!

Having now read this book as a child like Charlie, a teacher like Bill, and now as a psychologist, this book still takes me by surprise at how deeply affecting it is.

I experienced a huge amount of reading burn-out after my doctorate… I think it has finally passed. Taking some time this weekend to stop and read some short stories from start to finish.

Yesterday, I received my first pay cheque after completing my prof doc. After 3 years of bursaries it has been surprisingly emotional. The first thing I bought? A takeaway, sunflowers for my wife, and… a 33 part Swiss Army knife 🤷‍♂️😂 #edpsychs
