Toronto needs to stop waiting for the “perfect conditions” before building anything. The Yonge Street makeovers (both of them) are delayed waiting for a perfect fantastical future where their construction won't bother anyone. That's not how Montreal got its pedestrian streets.

I'm going to email my councillor about this as well, but, if you're a Toronto councillor and you field complaints about cyclists and then ask the police to do enforcement: you're inviting this kind of thuggery. I really hope that's not what happened here.

I have this theory that your average Toronto Parks worker could not pass a scheduled drug test and there is so much data in my favour on this.

The philosophy behind Toronto Parks design is that they're ornamental. They're designed to be looked at, not used. Why? Because (downtown) Toronto councillors use green space as a stick to beat condo developers with. Their usefulness is literally not a consideration.

If this is true, this is an absolutely rookie move and he should be removed just for that. Despite popular conception about evil developers, they are not actually flush with cash (it's all credit). They don't have a corruption budget. They're not Therme or Nieuport.

The second Andrew Coyne suggested we do road tolls and carbon taxes instead of high speed rail is the second that conservatives lost the culture war against high speed rail. Dead on arrival.

Also, as every conservative commentator has correctly noted in the last few weeks, last night's by-elections were actually a referendum on support for high speed rail. High speed rail won so even more of a reason to turn this airport into a park.

Regardless of what you think about capitalism or whatnot, the best argument in John's favour is that I legitimately cannot think of a good neighbourhood that Toronto has masterplanned since St. Lawrence in the 1970's.

The city knows that these crosswalks are dangerous (they don't install new ones) but they do nothing to improve them. No raised crossings, daylighting etc. You can count on the city to do absolutely nothing here too.

People over the age of 70 are absolutely terrified of being killed by a cyclist. It's their number one fear in life. I don't know how cycling activists are supposed to address this. Telling them they're way more likely to be killed by another driver (who's likely over the age of 70 too) doesn't work
