Last night I was like hmm need to read some Threepenny Review and found myself reading "Sheep May Safely Graze" by Jess Row in Pen/O. Henry 2010 (appears in Threepenny) which was preceded by Wendell Berry's "Stand By Me" and as a father I'm now very very sad.

I don't follow up on submissions anymore because I think a "screw off we're busy" would break my achey little heart plus what's the rush really. No one owes me a thing.

I love the general diversity of short story in the PEN/O. Henry Prize Stories collections. In the 2010 edition that I'm reading, "Them Old Cowboy Songs" by Annie Proulx is followed by "Clothed, Female Figure" by Kirstin Allio, two very different but equally moving stories.

Rite of passage I guess: MD telling you that the only way to diagnose the specific type is during brain autopsy. We’ve arrived at “mixed dementia” after 4 years. I get it (MDs have been earnest and forthcoming). It’s the mystery and ineffability of it all that gets me.
